Windy Hollow Dragway was the recipient of beautiful weather on Friday and Saturday. Under sunny skies and perfect temperatures, race fans and drivers were treated to two action-packed days of racing at the 1/8 mile drag strip in Western Daviess County. Over 100 drivers from the tri-state area invaded “The Holler” over the 2-day weekend.
The weekend kicked off on Friday with “Friday Night Fun Night.” Drivers and spectators took it from the strip to the street and raced their friends (and enemies) on the drag strip. IHRA bracket racing competitors also took advantage of the open test and tune session on Friday evening. The evening ended with an exciting, and close trophy bracket style race. Owensboro’s Darren Welborn, a 2nd generation racer took home the hardware at the end of the night in a close battle with the runner-up, Coty Fulkerson of Central City.
Saturday’s IHRA bracket race was held under sunny skies and somber hearts. Track officials learned of the passing of long-time racer and Windy Hollow Dragway supporter, Wayne Kelley of Nebo, KY. Track owner, Evelyn “Rooster” Miller and track officials dedicated Saturday’s event to the late racer. Kelley’s family was in attendance on Saturday.
A line of trucks and haulers as well as streetcars lined Windy Hollow Road beginning in the early afternoon through the evening as drivers and fans made their way through the gate at Windy Hollow Dragway. At the conclusion of a great night of IHRA bracket racing, the following were the June 4th division winners: Joe’s Transmission Super Pro Division Winner: Johnny Case (Calhoun, KY);Pro ET Division Winner: Eric Anderson (Boonville, IN);Sportsman Division Winner: Luke Wiseman (Elizabethtown, KY);Trophy Division Winner: Michael Schroader (Fordsville, KY);Jr. Dragster Division Winner: Billy Johnson (Philpot, KY) **See attachments for Winners’ Circle Photos
