Due to the work of two forecasters and the Electronic System Analyst at the National Weather Service in Paducah, NWS has announced a new resource for Amish and off-grid communities in the region.
Those without access to electronic means to receive forecast and hazardous weather information can now access this from the National Weather Service in Paducah by calling 270-744-6331 and selecting option 4. After selecting this option, callers can listen to the latest forecast information for selected portions of the area as well as the Hazardous Weather Outlook.
“Communities that lack electronic ways to receive forecast and hazardous weather information are particularly vulnerable when dangerous weather strikes,” says NWS Paducah Warning Coordination Meteorologist Christine Wielgos. “By adding this new phone resource, we hope this will allow these communities to stay aware and prepared when the National Weather Service is forecasting hazardous weather.”
Another new option will allow callers in the Evansville Tri-State area to access local forecast information by selecting option 5 when they call the office. In addition, callers will still be able to access weather forecast and climate information for the Paducah area, local river stages, and have the option to speak with a forecaster if desired.
