A bill limiting who charitable bail organizations are allowed to post bond for has passed through committee. HB 313 prohibits charitable bail organizations from posting bonds over $5,000 or for those charged with violent crimes. The measure was crafted in the wake of the attempted murder of Louisville mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg. Suspect 21-year-old Quintez Brown was bailed out by a charitable organization days after the shooting. Speaking in support of the bill was Macy Troutt, whose daughter was killed by an intoxicated driver who was out on bond. The bill passed out of committee 11-2, with five lawmakers passing on a vote.
