“Crossfire” was a Number One hit on Billboard's rock radio chart — Stevie Ray Vaughan's first to reach that plateau.
The song was written not by Vaughan but by his Double Trouble bandmates and some collaborators. It was the first time Double Trouble's three members had written a song together.
The In Step album was Vaughan's first after going through a substance abuse treatment program. The title makes reference to the famous Alcoholics Anonymous 12-step program for recovery.
Vaughan noted at the time of its release that “In Step was the first record I made sober, and it was a scary deal to go in the studio without my usual crutches.”
In Step peaked at Number 33 on the Billboard 200 chart and has sold more than two million copies.
