Just outside the top 10: Muhlenberg County, Perry Central, & Bishop Sycamore (just kidding. we had to)
10. Owensboro Catholic (0-2): The Aces find themselves in an unusual situation, setting at 0-2. To add to their troubles, quarterback Lincoln Clancy is banged up, and Braden Mundy has not been 100% either. While Catholic took one one on the chin against cross town rival Daviess County, the Aces are not going to back down from a difficult schedule. Catholic will play #9 ranked in class 3A Union County, and the Aces still find themselves ranked at #9 in class 2A.
9. Tell City Marksmen (1-1): Tell City went on the road and suffered a big 35-0 loss to Heritage Hills in the land of Lincoln. It appears as though the COVID troubles are in the rear view mirror for Tell City. The Marksmen will host Forest Park at 6:30 pm this Friday at Legion Field. You can listen to the game on CJ 105.7 fm courtesy of Owensboro Health.
8. Meade County Green Wave (1-1): After a big setback in first game of the season against Daviess County, the Green Wave took care of business against Elizabethtown, who finished last season as the class 3A runner-up. The Green Wave won 16-3 last Friday and look to keep the momentum going against Todd County Central this Friday. Meade County was supposed to play Louisville Desales, but the Colts had to cancel due to COVID 19 protocol.
7. Grayson County Cougars (1-0): The Cougars set idle last week after having to cancel their game against Barren County due to COVID-19 protocol. The official KHSAA scoreboard gives Grayson County a loss for the cancellation, but we’re not going to count it against the Cougars for the purposes of our poll. Grayson County will host McLean County in the battle of Cougars this Friday night.
6. McLean County Cougars (2-0): The Cougars of Calhoun are off to a hot start as McLean County went across state lines to Washington, Indiana and came home with a 18-8 win. Brady Dame has been nearly unstoppable in the Cougars first two games. The level of competition will increase significantly this Friday as McLean County travels to Leitchfield to take on 5A Grayson County.
5. Apollo Eagles (1-1): Apollo’s result Friday night didn’t go as planned, but the Eagles will be able to use to OHS game to fix some things. Ultimately, winning district is the goal for Apollo and they’ll be a better football team from having played OHS, much like OHS did when they lost to St. Xavier. Apollo has another tough opponent Friday night when the Eagles go on the road to take on a 2-0 Central Hardin team.
4. Hancock County (2-0): The Hornets have started the season on fire but trailed at the half against 5A Muhlenberg County. It was all Hornets in the second half as Logan Willis ran wild once again and Jack Duncan was a tackling machine. Hancock County will be heavy favorites in their next two games. The Hornets travel to Beaver Dam this Friday to take on the Ohio County Eagles. You can listen to Hornet football on 94.7 WBIO.
3. Daviess County (2-0): Daviess County was impressive in their 56-19 win over Owensboro Catholic last Friday night at Reid Stadium. Joe Humphreys was amazing, passing for a school record 567 yards. The Panthers will face their biggest test of the early season as Daviess County will host Owensboro this Friday at 6pm, in a battle of division one quarterbacks (Humphreys & Wimsatt). You can listen to the game on 92.9 WVJS & 102.7 The Game.
2. Henderson County (1-0): The Colonels had the week off, and typically teams don’t drop in the rankings after a bye week. Some of that has to do with the quality of their week 1 opponent in Calloway County. Expect the Colonels to roll this Friday against Christian County. Saadiq Clements (aka Boogie Man) picked up a Memphis offer and was named a 3 star on the Rivals recruiting page.
1. Owensboro (1-1): OHS was very impressive against Apollo on Friday night, coming away with a 44-7 win. Kenyata Carbon racked up 4 touchdowns and one interception in the win. Owensboro will face a very good Daviess County team this Friday night at Reid Stadium in one of the most anticipated games of the season. You can listen to the game on 92.9 WVJS & 102.7 The Game courtesy of Owensboro Health.
