HARDINSBURG, Ky. (May 29, 2021)- Kentucky State Police and the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office are working a death investigation on a missing Illinois woman. On Thursday, May 27, 2021, at approximately 2:14 P.M. CT, Kentucky State Police (KSP) detectives and Breckinridge County Sheriff’s (BCSO) deputies located a deceased female at 7863 South Highway 259 in Breckinridge Co. The deceased is believed to be that of Dwan Atwell, age 42, of Illinois. Atwell had been reported missing by her family in March to the BCSO.
An autopsy was performed on Friday at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville. The medical examiner was able to give positive identification that the body was in fact that of Atwell.
KSP was assisted at the scene by the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office and the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing by Detective James Gaither.
