FURsty FURsdays with Cat Daddy Caleb
Edition #3 – Thursday, February 25th, 2021
Welcome back ya FURsty freaks to my weekly blog of all things cute and furry. I’ll start with an “editors” note from last week. It sounds like (at least according to my mom and sister) that my memory did not serve me correctly and it was I – not my sister that pooped in the box haha. 😊 Now that we have that out of the way, it’s time to talk pets.
This week I’m having my dear friend Jess tell her cat-life story. The best way I think of is describing Jess is a beautiful old soul, mind and spirit mixed with a crazy cat lady that was technically born a Millennial but jives as the Gen-X’s did. The first thing I think of when I think of Jess – is cats. She often plays “cat sitter” for us when we’re out of town. She loves all of the cats and they love her back. She’ll share her story of the cats she has now and has had throughout her life. Jess has her own online store called Twisted Majjestics (which you can find on Facebook) where she sells items from pendants and gems to my personal favorite “self-defense kitty keychains” (pictures below). It’s a crazy world we live so check her out and get yourself a keychain so you can dot some eyes if you’re ever in trouble.
We’ll also update you on the latest from the best dog groomers in the Tri-State at The Classic Fur. They have a special visitor this week – a pygmy goat! You’ll want to see the pictures below! If your pup is looking ruff and needs a bath, cut or nail trim give my girl Kat (who owns The Classic Fur) a call at 270-240-5799 or visit them at 237 Williamsburg Square.
Where No Number of Cats Is Too Many… Not even 18!
– Written By Jessica Burdette
I was always a cat person growing up, and we had multiple cats at a time! One time, we had a record of 18 farm cats!!
As I got older, my love for the furry loaves only grew. In 2012, I moved into my first apartment and adopted a shelter kitty named Jolie.
About a year later, I found an ad in the paper for “free kittens”. I called, and went to have a look.
There were several adorable babies hopping and waddling around. I almost left with a little fluffy orange kitten, until I turned around and saw the cutest little Siamese boy sprawled out in the middle of the floor. As soon as I picked him up, I knew he was going to come home with me.
It took a while for Jolie to get used to our new friend Berkeley. It literally took YEARS of jealousy before they would eventually be inseparable. Any time one of them would be on my lap, the other would jump on me, then the one laying would get up and run away.
Once they decided to love each other, they would chase each other, lick each other, sleep with each other, etc. Berkeley would wait for Jolie to eat before he would ever try. He is an alpha male, but when it came to Jolie, he would melt.
Unfortunately, in August, Jolie suddenly passed away leaving us heartbroken. Some time went by, and I decided to welcome another shelter baby to the family.
So far, things are going about the way they went when Berkeley and Jolie first met. Some progress has been made, and there is much hope for the future!!
The new addition, Smudge, has many antics that remind me so much of Jolie. She collapses when you pat her, she has a soft and delicate meow, small frame, and just the sweetest attitude. She would never hurt a fly… maybe a stink bug (she loves those). You can tell that she is grateful for her new life, and I’m sure they’ll be best friends before I know it!!
FUR Real?
Since a pygmy goat is getting cleaned up at the Classic Fur today – I decided to divulge in to some fun facts about pygmy goats.
Fact #1: The domestication of pygmy goats dates all the way back to 7500 B.C.!
Fact #2: Pygmy’s can stand up within an hour of birth and follow their mommas around and nurse immediately.
Fact #3: Pygmy’s preferred diets consist of twigs, plants, leaves and shrubs. They’ve even been known to devour garbage and tin cans!
Fact #4: Pygmy’s can feel and be vulnerable to predators while they eat. Therefore, they can crush large quantities of food in a very short period of time if they are feeling vulnerable. They then regurgitate said food and chew it again when they get to an area where they feel safer.
Fact #5: Pygmy’s originate from the Cameroon region of West Africa!
The Classic Fur – Baby Goat in Da’ House!
If you stop in to the Classic Fur today you may be surprised to find a baby goat in the house! If it has fur – the Classic Fur will find a way to get it cleaned up… No, they won’t clean your husband up for you… But if it’s an animal and has fur – the Classic Fur is where you need to go. If your pup is looking ruff and needs a bath, cut or nail trim give my girl Kat (who owns The Classic Fur) a call at 270-240-5799 or visit them at 237 Williamsburg Square.
