“With A Little Luck” was Wings' fifth Number One single in the U.S., while it peaked at Number Seven in the U.K.
The song was among the first recorded for the London Town album, in a month-long session in May 1977 aboard a yacht called the Fair Carol that was docked in the Virgin Islands. Nine tracks were recorded on the boat, and seven of those appear on the album.
The album was to be titled Water Wings but was changed after subsequent land-bound sessions for the album were held at Abbey Road and AIR Studios in London and at the Record Plant in New York City.
Additional work was done on “With A Little Luck” in the London sessions.
The fifth lineup of Wings came apart in the London Town sessions. Guitarist Jimmy McCulloch quit the band in September 1977, while drummer Joe English left that December. Wings continued as a trio of McCartney, his wife Linda, and cofounder Denny Laine.
London Town hit Number Two on the Billboard 200 chart and peaked at Number Three in the U.K. It was Wings' fifth consecutive platinum release.
