J.C. Penney, the last remaining anchor store in Towne Square Mall, is closing. The store opened on E. Second Street on Aug. 18, 1923 and moved to the mall on South Frederica in 1978. The company announced Thursday that it will begin closing 154 stores next Thursday. The Evansville store will remain open at this time.
