Today we talk with OHS’ Weston Hayden who will be playing baseball for the Georgetown Tigers this fall.
102.7 The Game: Tell everyone what your favorite memory of being an Owensboro Red Devil was?
Weston Hayden: My favorite memory would be my first varsity at bat of my sophomore year, in the Florida beach bash. I got to pinch hit in the bottom of the 7th, down 3 runs. I hit a 3 run home run to send us into extras.
102.7 The Game: What did playing for Owensboro High School mean to you?
Weston Hayden: It was a great atmosphere, and no one really argued. It was the perfect situation for any high school player, especially mine. I’ve played with this group since I was five years old. I was able to go out there and enjoy every moment.
102.7 The Game: You mentioned that this group has been together for quite some time. Talk about what it meant to be apart of this senior class.
Weston Hayden: Getting to know a group of guys at that early of an age, and being able to grow with them through the game of baseball and life as well. It’s been incredible to see everyone’s development and how they’ve gotten better in certain situations. Just seeing everyone grow five years old when we started playing to now, when we’re 18 years old.
102.7 The Game: What are you plans for college?
Weston Hayden: I’ll be attending Georgetown College and majoring in post secondary education administration.
102.7 The Game: Why did you choose Georgetown College?
Weston Hayden: Of all the visits that I took, I felt like it was the best situation for me. I looked at Brescia too, but I felt like for me growing up and going into adulthood, I need to get out of Owensboro. Georgetown welcomed me with open arms, and recruited me pretty well. Everyone up there was so nice and willing to help me in any situation I needed, so I think that was my selling point for Georgetown.
102.7 The Game: What do you know about Georgetown baseball?
Weston Hayden: Not much, I’m not going to lie. Since I got recruited late into the season, I wasn’t able to do a bunch of campus tours. I do know that it’s a well renowned program, and they produce very good players and students from that school.
102.7 The Game: If the 2020 had been played, how would OHS baseball have done?
Weston Hayden: I think the sky was the limit for this team. I think a lot of things could’ve been accomplished with us growing and having a chip on our shoulders from last year. I think we could’ve done a lot this season. It’s unfortunate that it happened this way, but I do think it would’ve been a great season for us.
102.7 The Game: What will you miss most about high school baseball?
Weston Hayden: I’ll really miss mostly just going out there after school being with you brothers, getting the work, and getting ready for the season.
102.7 The Game: What is your message to your former high school teammates for next season?
Weston Hayden: Don’t take any moment for granted. While you’re at OHS, live every moment to the fullest if you can.
Congrats to Weston from all of us here at 102.7 The Game, and best of luck in your career at Georgetown College!!
