John Edge is coming back to Owensboro. Edge, who has spent the last two seasons at South Spencer (IN) has agreed to become the new head football coach at Apollo. He will be taking over for the departed Phillip Hawkins, who resigned in December to take the Bryan Station job in Lexington, Kentucky.
Edge took over as head football coach at South Spencer in 2018, with a 3-17 record over two seasons. Edge did however, implement the Tony Franklin air raid system throughout all levels of football at South Spencer, and the youth and middle school Rebel football teams have seen success with it. In his time as head coach at Owensboro Catholic, Edge amassed an incredible 130 wins, 5 regional titles, 3 KHSAA state runner-ups, with 4 NCAA Division 1 signings.
Edge will take over an Apollo offense that scored an average of 32 points per game and returns QB Damian Lovinsky, RB Harold Hogg, and linemen Cade Crume, Blaize Cart, and Parker Bates. Defensively the Eagles struggled last season giving up and average of 45 points per game. The defensive line will be anchored by 3 star prospect Logan Weedman. The linebacking corps will all return with Jarrod Gray, Cameron Baker, and Thomas Ferguson leading the way.
Press conference is set for 5pm Monday at Apollo High School, and 102.7 The Game will go Facebook Live
