Owensboro, Ky. (Oct. 15, 2019) – Kentucky Wesleyan College will present Whitney Way Thore, star of TLC’s “My Big Fat Fabulous Life,” on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Tapscott Chapel in the Barnard-Jones Administration Building. The public is invited to attend the free event. A limited number of tickets will be available. To reserve a ticket or for more information, contact Wesleyan’s Director of Student Involvement Michael McComas at michael.mccomas@kwc.edu or 270-852-3286.
Thore founded No Body Shame, an organization to help people of every variety live shame-free lives, in 2014. After being diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome in 2005 and experiencing a substantial weight gain, Thore abandoned her love of dance, but rediscovered it a decade later with her viral YouTube series “A Fat Girl Dancing.” The next year, her reality television series, “My Big Fat Fabulous Life,” premiered on TLC and is currently in its seventh season.
The campaign encourages people to rise above the negativity that society imposes on anyone who is “different” and to live their lives to the fullest no matter what the scale says. The movement’s motto is “Love yourself. Live fully. No excuses. No shame.”
