The Green River Intra-County Transit System, also known as GRITS, has received the largest of 17 Federal Transit Administration grants in Kentucky that total more than $7 million dollars. GRITS, part of Audubon Area Community Services, will receive $1.2 million to replace 24 of its fleet vehicles. The community action agency grants are aimed at mainly rural Kentucky transit groups to improve bus services for more than half of the commonwealth. 96 percent of GRITS revenue comes from Medicaid transportation recipients. Cuts to those services has created a backlash that means lower and lower reimbursements.
