U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell announced yesterday that the Owensboro Riverport Authority was awarded 11.52 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s “Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development” otherwise known as the “BUILD” program.
The Riverport Authority plans to use this grant funding to improve safety and access by widening Industrial Road. Industrial Road currently has zero shoulders, utility poles within feet of the road, and severe visibility issues. Commercial traffic on Industrial Road delivers more than one million tons of products to the Riverport each year.
