For the second year in a row, Owensboro Police Department officers are being allowed to grow beards for a couple of causes. According to an OPD release, Chief Art Ealum expanded the fundraiser from one month to three, from November through January. Officers have been raising money for the 4th annual Operation Santa, which provides food to those in need during the holidays, and Camp K.O.P.S, a crime prevention program aimed at allowing local Kids to experience fun camping activities while Obtaining Positive Structure from officers. Chief Ealum recognized the enthusiasm that this idea brought to several officers and decided to implement it. The only restriction is that beards can only be up to an inch in length. To date, with the help of around 56 members of OPD, around $5,000 has been raised.
