In what’s being called the largest job announcement in local history, Alorica Inc. yesterday announced its plans to open a location in Owensboro, in the BB&T building at 3rd and Frederica. Company officials now say Alorica will employ 840 people at its customer service center. One spokesoman told the Messenger-Inquirer that 90 percent of the jobs will be full-time. The first 500 will be hired in the first year, with the rest coming within three years. When it opens in the second quarter of 2017, Alorica will be the third largest Daviess County employer, behind Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and U.S. Bank Home Mortgage. Building owners Jack Wells and Matt Hayden plan a major renovation of the building, which will eventually feature a restaurant on the first floor.
