It’s one more step towards a major breakthrough for Owensboro and Western Kentucky. 42 miles of the Pennyrile Parkway has been brought up to interstate standards and officially has a new name: Interstate 69. Gov. Steve Beshear, transportation officials, and elected leaders celebrated the accomplishment in Madisonville yesterday afternoon. The plan has been to spend more than $69-million upgrading the road, raising bridges, and turning it into an interstate that will run from Indiana, through Kentucky, and down to Tennessee, eventually with spurs running through the Big O.
