Although transportation planners were anticipating more people on the roads over the Labor Day weekend, the number of traffic fatalities was down compared to Labor Day weekend 2014. Last year the number was 13; this year 9; none in the Owensboro area. Alcohol is believed to have been a part of 3 of those fatalities. Highway loss of life overall is up– 492 traffic fatalities so far this year, compared to 451 fatalities for the same period in 2014.
